A modular container house is a finished room-sized module that can be combined with others — stacked vertically, linked horizontally, or arranged in a courtyard — to create a building larger than any single unit. It is the format used for multi-storey accommodation blocks, hotels, campuses and large camps.
Other container housing types are single buildings that fold or assemble. Modular units are repeating components. Each module is produced to the same structural standard with matching corner fittings, so they can be craned into position and connected on site. The building grows by adding modules rather than by making one unit bigger.
| Module | Function |
|---|---|
| Standard living module | Bedroom, living space or office room with finished interior |
| Sanitary module | Bathroom, WC or shower block |
| Corridor module | Circulation spine connecting adjacent rooms |
| Stair module | Vertical access between levels |
| Service module | Plant, electrical distribution, storage or laundry |
| Wide-span module | Larger open area for dining, meeting or recreation |
Foundation and load path come first. Once modules are stacked, the ground floor carries the weight of everything above. The base design, corner loading and wind bracing must be confirmed by a qualified engineer for the site conditions.
Two to three storeys are common in temporary and semi-permanent applications. Higher buildings require a structural design for the complete load path and wind loading.
At the corner fittings with bolted connections, and along the joints with a sealed detail to keep the building weathertight.
Yes, provided the original foundation and services were designed with expansion in mind.
Expandable units grow by unfolding. Modular buildings grow by adding separate modules. Expandable suits single units; modular suits multi-unit buildings.
For stacking and for placing finished modules, lifting equipment is normally required. The capacity and reach depend on module weight and site conditions.
Send your required number of rooms, storeys and site plan; we will propose a module configuration and connection scheme.
